I’ve been noticing more 2s in my life recently. Two symbolizes basic duality: yes—no, alive—dead, left—right, you—me, yin—yang. Accepted—rejected. Two is also the only even prime number, and that makes it a little bit special. I have two dogs. There are two windows in my tiny studio. I saw two rainbows in the summer and watched two deer in the fall.

In the last two months, I’ve had two short stories rejected and two accepted.
Twos are everywhere in nature, and I think they serve as a message about balance for daily life. The blank page and the finished story. Two sides of the coin, light and dark. We can’t have one without the other and perhaps, more importantly, we can’t appreciate one without the other. No writer wants their work to be rejected, but without those rejections, the acceptances wouldn’t taste nearly as sweet.
Number two is all about harmony (unless you are two, then it’s probably about poop, but that’s a different story).
Today I’ll be watching for the 2s and the balance in their meaning—won’t you, two too?
