It’s National Puppy Day! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate living in the moment than by spending the day with Boone. He’s eight months old now and the world is still brand new, but even the things he sees and does frequently are exciting, because a new moment makes it a new experience.

For him, the snow we need to shovel is fun to roll and dig in. The old dog who didn’t want to play yesterday might today, so ask again. Something as simple as a stick, a sock, or a piece of rope can be made into the best game if you focus on having fun and not the lack of an expensive toy.
The story I was stuck on yesterday is flowing today because I looked at it with today’s happiness, not yesterday’s frustration or tomorrow’s worry. I looked at it through a puppy’s point of view: we only have this moment—this one right now—so make it fun.
Life advice from a dog: each day is a new beginning so reset, start fresh, and sniff out the joy in all things.
