“I fell for you the day I rode down the hill and you came out of the cabin,” Summer said. “You startled me so badly I think I peed a little. Then I ate your fabulous chili and wondered if I could pass up a man who can cook like that. Turns out I couldn’t.”
Troy laughed and loved her all the more as he tipped back in a camp chair and gazed into the heavens. All around was the vast serenity of the high country. He wouldn’t trade it for all of his father’s millions.

Life’s Good Coffee Rubbed T-Bone
Troy savored a root beer while two coffee rubbed T-bones sizzled on the grate. A breeze washed the smell of campfire smoke and good beef over him. The evening star rose over the peaks. A memory of his grandfather rose with it. Miles Porter had often pointed at the night sky and whispered to Troy, “When a man finds his summer star, he’s found his heart.”

Get Lucky Dutch Oven Blueberry Cobbler
Troy went to the rock fire pit and arranged his multilevel cooking rack over it. He was no gourmet chef, but with a campfire and cast iron at his command, he was better than most. His Dutch oven blueberry and cinnamon cobbler had gotten him laid on more than one occasion. “I’d rather go camping.”

Eric’s Ass-Kicking Potato Salad
“That’s not the best part,” Eric said. “You get to feed me for an entire month.”
It was the best news Troy’d heard in ages. A month to spend with his friend was a rare gift. “I don’t think I can stand your ugly face that long.”
“Kiss my ass and tell me where you are.”
Troy did and gladly. “When will you get here?”
“Just in time for the Fourth of July. I’m bringing a sack of spuds for potato salad.”
“And I suppose you want me to make it,” Troy said.
“Naturally.”
