Dogs have added more to my life than I can possibly give back. Think about it, in exchange for basic needs that cost little in the way of money or time, a dog will give you his everything — his entire being, his heart, his loyalty, for every breath of his life.
I love all dogs, but there’s something special about the big ones for me. Those gentle giants who eat a lot and put my legs to sleep when they want to be lapdogs. They sort of give “doggy door” a whole new meaning.
Big dogs, and the dog/human connection, intrigued me so much that I wrote a novel about it. My test readers raved about it, and a publisher liked it, too. “Courageous Cain” will be released September 7 by Champagne Books. http://champagnebooks.com/store/index.php
It saddens me to know that there are so many dogs who need homes, and often big dogs are overlooked. It’s not only me, Polly finds this highly disturbing and wanted to help another big dog by providing a home and a pack. We discovered Big Bones Canine Rescue in Windsor, CO. A wonderful place, with caring people, doing all they can for big dogs in need.
It was here where we found Ty, a Boxer Dane mix, and while not as big as Polly, he’s still a big boy with a giant heart. Opening your home (and your heart) to a dog who desperately needs it is a wonderful feeling. Watching Ty settle in, his physical condition improve, and his confidence grow is fulfilling. I’m excited to see his true personality begin to blossom.
Polly and I had a long talk about it and she wants to help more big dogs. I agreed (and got big kisses for it).
So, a portion of all sales of “Courageous Cain” will go to Big Bones Canine Rescue. Those dogs deserve it. It’s the Courageous thing to do.
Please spay and neuter your pets.
